Can I use my existing boiler if I switch to underfloor heating?

You can use your existing boiler, whatever type it is, may it be gas, LPG, or oil. It also works with heat pumps; thereby, you can have significant savings when you decide to turn your current heating system into underfloor heating.

Which is a better type of underfloor heating - wet or dry?

Both systems have their pros and cons. Wet underfloor heating may be more expensive to install, but you end up with lower energy bills after that. Electric or dry underfloor heating is cheaper to set up, but with a higher electricity consumption tradeoff. However, the rule of thumb is, if you are working on a single small space, electric underfloor heating is worth considering. Wet underfloor heating makes more sense when installing for an entire property or a bigger space.

Do you serve underfloor heating clients outside Edinburgh?

We will most likely accommodate those located in neighbouring areas; otherwise, we are open to discussing this with you further to see if we can make any exceptions.

Is it a good idea to leave my underfloor heating on at home during the day?

Given that it takes hours to warm up your home, yes, it will be best to leave it on, albeit at a lower temperature during winter months, to allow your thermostat to work more efficiently. You can even schedule your high temperatures for those equipped with smart thermostats to operate at certain hours as you prefer. Moreover, make sure to optimise your use of heating by targeting areas that are often inhabited and skipping those not accessed too often.

How soon can you warm up the room with underfloor heating?

It would be best to give it a bit of time, roughly two to three hours, for your room to heat up after turning on your underfloor heating mechanism. It can be shorter or longer depending on the thermal conductivity of your flooring. 

What are the common problems and issues encountered with underfloor heating?

With proper use, you will usually enjoy unobstructed heating comfort using underfloor heating systems for many decades, requiring very little maintenance in the process. However, some may experience having zones that do not have adequate heating, which may be caused by unbalanced flow rates, airlocked pipes, or system blockages. Fortunately, though, most of these issues call for minor fixes.

Can underfloor heating be placed on top of existing floors?

Technically yes. Beyond retrofitting it on top of subfloors, the use of overfloor panels allows you to install underfloor heating even when wooden or tiled flooring already exists. With all the floor prep, insulation, and pipework or wiring, needless to say, this option will raise your floor height by several centimetres.
